Unnatural Water (and Some Photojournalism)

I usually shoot with a Canon 400D (lovely camera, by the way), together with a boot-load of gear. The results are great, although lugging all that stuff around is just plain troublesome. This usually means leaving home without the camera.

Why am I moaning about this? I was passing by VivoCity today when an opportune photo moment popped up. Without my trusty camera with me, I had to resort to my mobile phone’s camera, which usually takes appalling pictures.

Surprisingly though, the pictures turned out alright, although they’re obviously lacking in sharpness and definition. What’s more interesting, however, is that the odd mixture of light / reflections / refractions / water / air created an interesting effect with the water.

How so? Well, the following two images show the unrealistic and uncanny way that the water seemed. Think of it as God Photoshop-ing the water with a bit of a Gaussian Blur (wonder if God uses Photoshop on a Mac or PC?). Or something. Along those lines. Haha.

Just thought I’d share it. Now I seriously need to get a decent bag for hauling my camera gear around. Gah, I’m in the wrong profession, photojournalism totally rocks.
